Highlighted Features - Showcase Key Updates
Learn how to add and manage highlighted features with images, videos, and descriptions to make your releases more engaging.
What are Highlighted Features?
Highlighted Features are special cards that showcase the most important updates in your release. They appear prominently on your public releases page and help users quickly understand what's new.
Each feature can include:
- A title and description
- An image, GIF, or video
- Custom ordering to prioritize features
Adding Your First Feature
Step 1: Open the Features Dialog
- Create or edit a release
- Scroll to the Highlighted Features section
- Click Add Highlighted Features (or Manage Features if you already have features)
Step 2: Add a New Feature
- In the features dialog, click Add New Feature
- A new feature card will appear in edit mode
- Fill in the feature details (see below)
- Click Save Feature
Feature Details
Title
A clear, concise name for the feature. Examples:
- "Interactive Dashboard Widgets"
- "Dark Mode Support"
- "Enhanced Search Functionality"
Description
Explain how this feature benefits users. Be specific and user-focused:
- ✅ "Users can now customize their dashboard with drag-and-drop widgets, making it easier to see the information that matters most."
- ❌ "Added dashboard widgets."
Media
Visual content makes features more engaging. You can add:
- Images (screenshots, mockups)
- GIFs (animated demonstrations)
- Videos (MP4, WebM, OGG)
Adding Media
Option 1: Upload Image
Best for screenshots and static images:
- Select Upload mode
- Click the upload area
- Select an image file (PNG, JPG up to 5MB)
- Wait for upload to complete
Supported formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG
Maximum size: 5MB
Option 2: External Link
Best for GIFs, videos, or images hosted elsewhere:
- Select Link mode
- Paste the URL in the input field
- The media will be displayed automatically
Supported:
- Image URLs (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP)
- Video URLs (MP4, WebM, OGG)
- GIF URLs (including Giphy, Imgur, etc.)
Media Best Practices
- ✅ Use high-quality images (at least 1200px wide)
- ✅ Show the feature in action (screenshots, GIFs)
- ✅ Keep file sizes reasonable for fast loading
- ✅ Use GIFs to demonstrate interactions
- ✅ Use videos for complex features
Managing Features
Reordering Features
Change the order of features to prioritize the most important ones:
- Open the features dialog
- Use the up/down arrow buttons on each feature card
- Features are automatically saved in the new order
Tip: Put your most exciting features first!
Editing Features
- Click the pencil icon on a feature card
- Make your changes
- Click Save Feature
Deleting Features
- Click the trash icon on a feature card
- Confirm the deletion
Note: You can also delete a feature while editing it by clicking Cancel if it's a new feature, or using the delete button for existing features.
Feature Display
In the Editor
In the release editor, you'll see a preview of your first 4 features. If you have more than 4, a "+X more" card will appear.
On the Public Page
All features are displayed in order on your public releases page. They appear as:
- Numbered cards with titles
- Descriptions below the title
- Media (images/videos) prominently displayed
Tips for Great Features
Content
- ✅ Focus on user benefits, not just technical details
- ✅ Be specific about what users can do
- ✅ Keep descriptions concise but informative
- ✅ Use action-oriented language
Visuals
- ✅ Show the feature in context
- ✅ Use GIFs to demonstrate interactions
- ✅ Include before/after comparisons when relevant
- ✅ Ensure images are clear and well-lit
Organization
- ✅ Limit to 3-6 key features per release
- ✅ Order by importance or user impact
- ✅ Group related features together

When to Use Highlighted Features
Use highlighted features for:
- Major new features
- Significant improvements
- Visual changes that benefit from screenshots
- Complex features that need explanation
- User-requested features
